I edit: the more complex the human drama, the more imaginative the settings, the better. With extensive experience in VFX, motion graphics, and streamlining end to end workflow.
While often found freelancing in Soho, I am happiest working surrounded by the open spaces of Southern Hertfordshire, in a Wooden Post House.

A County at War – Life on the Home Front in Hertfordshire, a documentary commissioned by the Lord-Lieutenancy at the Queen’s request for every county to mark the centenary of World War 1, was written and directed by Howard Guard DL.
The edit comprised of stories from local Hertfordshires, told through animated photographs, and clips from Pathe and Getty. Rock Paper Scissors NY colourgraded, Warner Brothers De Lane Lea sound mixed, Elstree Studios provided motion graphics.
After it's premiere at The Rex cinema, Berkhamstead, 1800 copies were distributed to schools and museums. Howard was made an Honourary Doctorate and awarded an MBE.
Four years later, to commemorate the armistice, the Lord-Lieutenant commissioned a continuation to the story, following the Hertfordshire Regiment across the Channel to St. Julien, Ypres. My students from the Forces Media Academy - service leavers and veterans training for a career in the media - crewed the additional interviews. The film was mixed by Adam and Graham Daniel at Point1Post, Elstree. Thousands of DVDs were distributed to schools, clubs, and museums throughout Hertfordshire - raising tens of thousands for charity.
In recognition of this, I attended the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, in May 2019.

YouTube Tutorials do an excellent job covering what buttons to click: I divide my sessions into Creative (mindfulness of the zeitgeist), Technical (familiarity with professional workflow), and Managerial skillsets.
From 2015-18, I visiting lectured in editing to BA Film Production, and from 2017-18 in compositing to BA VFX, at Bucks New University, and am still in regular correspondence with many of my former pupils.
In 2017, I joined the LIBOR funded Forces Media Academy; an intensive one-year media course for service leavers, as the Associate Lecturer in Post Production, dedicating four days a month. During my two year appointment, 85% of graduates went straight into either full-time or freelance employment, including work experience at Warner Bros., Duty Operations manager at Pinewood Studios, Social Media Officer for the Royal British Legion, running at The Farm, and joining me at the Edinburgh Television Festival.
British Film Editors
British Film Editors (BFE) is a not-for profit honorary society of professional Film and Television Editors, formed in 1966. I was voted a Governor at the beginning of 2020.
During the COVID Lockdown, I redesigned the website and members directory; researched and produced a Career Ladder resource to guide assistants wishing to progress to editorial; helped streamline the digital presence and galvanised industry sponsorships; and, together with wide-ranging industry support, curated the Cut Above Awards to launch January 2021, the first commendation of its kind to isolate a craft, champion cognitive diversity, and not make contest out of culture.
